"TV good, delivery service bad" 2009-01-19
By Jacqueline Stack
This TV is very nice: good picture, easy setup. The delivery was very poor. It was much more challenging to arrange a delivery time as the delivery company was pretty dense. The TV was delivered on a large pallet and the delivery person refused to even remove the box from the pallet for my wife so that the TV could be moved indoors. I definitely would question using this vendor again due to their poor choice in delivery companies.

 "Best deal...Fo real!" 2008-10-15
By Robert Rucker Hill (Big D, Tejjas)
Yes...I did my due diligence... I scanned the web, hit the stores and this was the true 'Best Buy' out there. I needed a TV that was better than the one that did not work and I was not looking for the latest and greatest to "one up" my friends.

What I was looking for was a good working TV that would last longer than it would take for me to pay it off...Which pans down to mean low cost and a strong reputation for manufacturing solid TV's...and this one hit the target dead-on. I got the best price on Amazon.com from the warehouse. Go ahead and search for yourself. You'll be right back.

"HD stands for "Huge Difference"" 2008-09-05
By Shawn Hazen (Chicago, IL USA)
We were woefully unprepared for how crappy normal TV would look. That's a compliment to this excellent TV (and HD in general) but it meant we had to scrap our digital cable and get DirecTV. We also didn't have the right cables to hook up all our stuff. But all that's our fault. We just got the thing because my 10-year-old 32" block was kind of an embarrassment. This was one of the better prices for a name brand HDTV, though it was more than we needed to spend. I think it was worth it, though, because we have no complaints about the color, picture quality, or features. It was easy to figure out once it was hooked-up. And the design is clean and not as gaudy as some others. I'd highly recommend it if you're ready to make the jump to HD. Just be ready for the surprise, and to shell out some more dough for new cable and new cables.

 "Sweet Buy" 2008-07-21
By Falkingood (Pennsylvania)
This TV has a beautiful picture. I bought a Samsung because the vividness of color was unmatched in the sets I looked at. My only regret is that I mounted it above my fireplace and wish it was a 46" or 50". A TV a bit larger would have been nicer there. At this point though for $899 I couldn't go wrong. This will probably end up in the gameroom as I replace my tubes one by one. Nice buy!

 "Spectacular TV and service!!" 2009-04-27
By R. Glynn (Boston, MA USA)
I was originally going to buy a Kuro 50 inch plasma after looking at all the online reviews from many different sites. The Samsung 650 was also ranked very high, but there were some small negatives about the tv (some glare issues primarily) that had me holding off for the Kuro. Amazon originally had the Kuro for about 2k, but I didn't pull the trigger quick enough, and then it went away, and I couldn't find it anywhere for under $2,500.

I wasn't sure if I was going to go ahead and buy the 650 when I looked on Amazon one day and saw the new 50 inch 760 on sale for $1,599.00. After reading some professional reviews on this product (there wasn't a whole lot due to how new it was), I decided that this was an upgrade from the slightly older model, and decided to pull the trigger. Best decision I could have made! Not sure if experts still rank the Kuro higher than this television, but if they do, the Kuro must be out of this world, because this Samsung is UNBELIEVABLE. This is my first plasma tv purchase, and I was used to watching television on a 36" Panasonic traditional tv, but after seeing the picture on the Samung, I was blown away. Watching sports on tv makes you feel as if you are at the event. The color is amazing, the tv looks nice, and the swivel on the stand allows me to turn the tv to face me when my wife isn't around. It even makes bad movies good (think Spiderman 3), awful movie, but awesome special effects in high def! I think the sound was decent as well, but it didn't have enough booming bass for me, so with the money I saved over the Kuro, I purchased a Denon soundbar to go along with the plasma to add better surround sound and booming bass. Now wherever I am seated in the room, I can turn my components to face me and enjoy a pretty good surround sound system. If you don't want to add a surround sound system, this tv handled sound well, but as I say I was really looking for more booming bass when I watched movies. It would have been great if there was a way to add a subwoofer directly to this television, something the Kuro has, but not the Samsung.

There is a teeny glare on the OUTSIDE edge of the television on the part that is not actually the screen(not sure why Samsung made it almost a mirror like edge), but nothing that is too distracting, and I got used to it pretty quickly. I have this in my living room which gets very little light when the shades are closed, but even with lights on, or during the day, the glare issue on this tv is not noticeable. I was a little leary given past Samsung reviews, but I can tell you that if possible glare is holding you back from buying this tv, don't think twice about it...not an issue. Also, you can watch this tv from anywhere in the room and see it clearly. The controls on the remote are extremely functionable, and everything is VERY easy to setup and tweak.

The other part of this purchase that is EXTREMELY important, and should be emphasized, is the process of buying DIRECTLY through Amazon.com. As long it is directly through Amazon.com (and not through an affiliate), shipping is included in the price, and the company handling the deliveries is TOP NOTCH. When I initially looked around for purchase possibilities, the thing that bothered me was that most companies had a policy where they would deliver the plasma to your front door only. You had to open the box, make sure that it worked, and then sign for it. If there was any type of problem, some would tell you to refuse delivery, and others would tell you that you had to get it fixed through the warranty process! The last thing I wanted to do was to get a defective set, and then have to get someone here to fix it! When I went with Amazon.com, the company delivering for them brought the plasma into my house, took it out of the box, put it on the open table, hooked it up, put batteries in the remote, setup the initial configuration, and made sure that it was working fine BEFORE I signed for it. This piece of mind often called "white glove service" elsewhere costing anywhere from $100 - $150 additional dollars was ABSOLUTELY free with Amazon.com. I can't stress enough how important this was. I had read about this service beforehand, and it was a primary reason (along with cost) as to why I was pretty much holding off until I found the right television on Amazon. This service alone made my purchase through Amazon.com worth the price over other services, but the price was also also at the lower range of ANYWHERE else. A friend of mine owns an electronics store, and told me point blank that he doesn't understand how Amazon.com can price merchandise the way they do it, but he had heard good things about them, and although it would hurt him by recommending Amazon.com, he told me to buy from them if the price was right.

I highly recommend this television as well as purchasing from Amazon.com. The final way you know how happy I am with this purchase is to keep the following in mind....I RARELY spend the time to enter reviews after purchases, but I was so happy with this purchase, that I couldn't wait to share my experience with everyone on Amazon.com

The Samsung PNA760 50" plasma television is amazing and Amazon White Glove delivery is top notch.

The White Gloves Delivery man and I unpack the television, placed it atop my entertainment center, plug it end, and turned it on. The picture was incredible without any adjustments. We currently have 4 flat screen televisions in our home, two LCDs and two Plasmas. Although the LCDs are excellent televisions, they pale in comparison to the two plasmas. The primary differences are motion blur and black level.

My only negative comment concerning the PNA760 50" plasma is reflection glare. Probably would not want to place this Television in a brightly lighted room without heavy curtains to block out ambient light sources while viewing. In a dark room this television is perfect in all aspects. I highly recommend Amazon's white glove delivery too.

 "Great product!" 2009-04-13

The picture is amazing, even with standard definition telivision. Blu-Ray looks breathtaking. Another nice feature is being able to connect to your home network & watch picture, movies, & listen to music all without a media center extender. Amazon shipped the item very quickly & it arrived at the delvery hub by VESA. VESA, on the other hand, held on to the item for about two weeks without calling to set up a date to deliver. I had to call Amazon & ask why they were not delivering, needless to say it was delivered the next day. Other than the contractor amazon uses, it was a great experience.

"How I fixed the high pitched noise" 2009-08-18
By KC
This is a good television with great picture and many fine features but like so many others my set over time developed the annoying high frequency noise. After reading some of the reviews here and finding information elsewhere I found that the early sets had a defective component on the power control circuit board. I contacted Samsung regarding the issue but they did not acknowledge responsibiity for the defective component and my set was no longer under warranty. So I found a revised circuit board available at [...], part # BN44-00155A. The new board cost was [...].

To replace the board I placed the set face down on my living room carpet. I removed the screws holding the back panel to the front. I easily located the PCB...the power cord is connected directly to it via a small cable...and pulled 3 or 4 attached cables. The cables appear to be relatively fragile so be careful with this step. I removed 4 screws that attached the PCB and reversed the process with the new board and back panel.

I turned the set on and it has been operating noise free since. Another advantage is that it seems to have improved the picture quality to some extent. At first I thought it was just me but my girlfriend was the first to mention it. Samsung should have recalled these sets but since they didn't I was happy to salvage my initial investment for an additional $100. Hope this helps others having the same issue.

Impressive picture quality in HD. Not so hot for non-HD signals - my 15 yr old sony crt looks better.

Also, it's slow to switch between signal inputs.

Minor gripes, I'd still probably give it 4 stars, except for the quality issues below.

First we had the same buzzing power supply that everyone else had. Now, it has completely died. I've had it 1yr and 2wks. When you turn it on, the screen flashes for a moment and goes black. Samsung says they should be able to extend the warrenty for 1 month to get it repaired. Hoping a tech can come by soon...

I was planning on this tv lasting 10yrs! At this rate, it won't make it 2... and i doubt my next tv will be a samsung...

 "A High Quality Product." 2008-12-05
By 1776
We've had this set for about a year and a half now and we really enjoy it. My only real regret is not getting a bigger screen, but my wife didn't want a set too large for our smallish living room. However, she was pleasantly surprised at how nice this "piano black" Samsung looked there and we both just love watching TV on it, expecially in HD. Even the remote looks and feels stylish.

My one criticism is with the 2 zoom modes. "Zoom 1" should back off just a little...it cuts off a little more than it needs to to optimize a wide-screen standard def picture. "Zoom 2" is completely useless.

BTW, as far as I can tell this set does not do 1080i, just 720p. This has not been an issue thus far, as all HD programming we get is 720p, but there will be a BluRay player in its future, which does 1080p and it would be nice to know we're getting the highest res picture there is...but again, this matters less on a smaller TV like this.

For the 8 feet average distance from our couch to the set, I think a 42 inch would be perfect, so I've started poking around at the latest Sharp Aquos 42", and for not much more than the $900 or so we paid for this, you get a 10 inch bigger screen, 1080p, twice as fast response time and slightly better contrast ratio in a fairly compact package. This would bump the Sharp into a smaller room in the house which would work better for a 32".

Hey, I've read many reviews. Let's not over-complicate things. I've had this unit over a year. It's wonderfull! I use it with all my devices. I've had no problems with my PC, VCR, DVD, RECEIVER, etc. I've learned to connect them all, to use as I please. There are connections for everything, all at the same time. One button switches from one to the other easily. Picture in picture is good to; preventing missing game moments. The HD is great, and receiver is compatable with cable, satellite, and Analog antenna. What else can you ask for. The web sight by Samsung offers extended codes for unique devices to program your remote. Friends who have similiar products by other manufacturers, have had difficulties I have never had. Thank you Samsung, for making this too easy. What a great purchase!

 "Disappointed - but redeemed" 2009-07-02
By Painting Fool
When we bought this great TV we took the advice of a wise young nephew and purchased an extended warrantee - just in case. The TV was everything we could ask for. But at the close of the 1st year it started having a problem powering up. It got worse, and worse. Finally, I called about it. The power circuit failed. Unfortunately that would have resulted in an expensive repair, more than the TV was worth. As fate would have it, I waited a week too long to call about it, so it was no longer under manufacturer's warrantee.

THANK THE HEAVENS ABOVE - we listened to our nephew and had spent the extra $250 for an extended warrantee with "NEW". They offerred replacement or buy out with an exceptional deal. We took the buyout and purchased another Samsung 40" LCD HDTV. It, too is a great set. But we also purchased another extended warrantee from "NEW" - just in case !

Having owned an earlier model Samsung LCD, it was an easy choice to upgrade to this 1080p model. The picture is even better than the 720p model we still have and the handling of actions shots is better although fast moving water creates still a slight problem with picture break-up. No maintenance problems after a year and half of ownership.

I bought this tv for my gameroom which is my 3rd bedroom. The 40inch tv is the perfect size for the small room but those who want one for their living room might want to look at a larger screen size. The picture is crisp, images are sharp, the audio is a lacking somewhat but not enough to drop a star. I've also looked at Sony, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sharp, and LG but Samsung seems to give me more bang for the buck. No buyers remorse here. You really can't go wrong with Samsung.

"My review - less than 2 yrs later" 2009-02-22
By JD (Philly)
Let the fun begin. I bought this TV May12, 2007 and the extended warranty thru Amazon. The TV is now beginning to fail (Feb 2009). When I turn it on, it tries to turn on, then turns off, then turns on, etc. and when a picture finally appears, I can see whatever program is on but there are also little pink dots all over the screen. If I turn the TV off, and turn it back on, it comes on without recycling on and off like it does initially, and the little pink dots are gone. Today the pink dots were replaced by a solid screen of colored lines. Turned the TV off and on again and got a good picture. When I bought the TV from Amazon, I also bought the extended 4yr warranty. I called N.e.w. today and a service rep is coming next week. I paid a lot of money for this TV in 2007. The new model of Samsung that is comparable to this TV is now only $900 give or take. I paid $1800. So hopefully, this will turn out well and the extended service contract will prove to be worthwhile. I plan on re-reviewing along my journey.

Followup: The technician just left. It was the power board that was failing progressively. I had the extended warranty with NEW and the first company they set me up with never showed. I called and asked for a different repair company that was closer geographically to my home. They then set me up with Falcones Electronics in Media Pa. They diagnosed the problem over the phone based on my description of what was happening, ordered the power board, and then just came this morning and installed it. My LCD is better than new now. The power board failure got worse over time until it got to the point that the TV would just not turn on. So if you see it getting worse (starts out as pink dots, then stripes, then won't turn on), it's the power board. They told me that without the warranty, it would have run me about $350 to fix. So I'm pleased that the warranty turned out to be a good investment and I'm once again very pleased with this TV. The technician told me that the failure rate on new electronics is about 3% so it's rare. Nonetheless, mine failed but was easily fixed. I paid $1800 for this TV just shy of 2 yrs ago and around $300 for the extended warranty with NEW through Amazon. Despite the initial glitch with NEW and the first company not showing up, not only do I have my TV back and working, I've also now discovered a great little electronics shop for anything else I might need done. I'm just amazed any more when I get good service. Can you tell?

 "Complete Harmony" 2009-09-20
By J. Davis (Columbus, GA)
Pros: Fully backlit, Good battery life, Support for a multitude of devices & this is a lower end Harmony!!!, Nearly unlimited commands & places to put them, Lcd & buttons next to it offer easy access to standard & advanced commands.

Cons: Number pad is too small & awkwardly located, Volume & Channel buttons (same reasons), Set-up can be involved, not friendly for the technically challenged (involves set-up using a computer software interface & lots of tweaking).

Other Thoughts: My Vizio 47XVT had a terrible, unlit remote & I never placed stock in "do-it-all" multimedia remotes.

I never knew what I was missing. This remote does it all. I currently have it controlling my Vizio, Xbox 360 Elite, Samsung BD-P1600, Sony DVP-NS710H, & Sony STR-DH800 A/V receiver. The Activities feature is very nice, one button turns on devices to be used, does input selection, & turns off devices not in use. Between the 4 devices I am using there were only 1 or 2 commands that I had to "teach" it from the OEM remotes.

I consider myself to be technically inclined, but set-up can be very involved. For example, I had trouble gettin my hdtv to go to the proper input. The end result was adding end Activity commands to switch them (this was prior to adding the A/V receiver). The receiver handles all of the hdmi switching now.

Overall, setup took me a couple of hours. That involved tweaking power delays, start-up sequences/delays, & some end activity tweaking for each of my 4 Activities. This remote is not for anyone who simply wants to enter a device code & call it soup. It is for a true control freak!!

"Logitech Harmony 550 Universal Remote Control - Refurbished" 2009-09-12
By J. Adams
Brand new-like condition - unbeatable price compared to retail - if you have never used a Logitech Harmony remote, you must read the directions first before attempting to configure (trust me on this). All-in-all, it is very user friendly and easy to setup - controls all my many different brands of remotes. The Activities task option allows simultaneous multi-control of devices and settings at the push of a button. It works great and really does simplify common home entertainment tasks. Turn on all devices needed with one button. Turn them all off with another. More complicated tasks are possible if you wish to spend the time setting them up. There are so many other useful features that it only makes this an even better product. Highly recommended to the skeptics (like myself) who thought the concept of one remote would always be just a marketing dream scheme to get your hard-earned money (I own many universal and programmable remotes that did not do what they promised).

The only negative comment I can make (and it is small) is that the buttons on the Harmony, get automatically assigned when a specific remote profile is loaded and are not described anywhere I have found. This means you must "explore" all the pre-defined button assignments and discover what they do. Once you have used it for awhile you can then decide if a custom assignment is needed. So far, I have not had to do this. Learning what did what, though, was a chore that could be avoided if more detailed information was available.

"great remote just wished number keys were a little bigger!" 2009-09-11
By Steven J. Schultz (pa)
I bought this remote refurbished and you could not beat the price. I have to say that even the most complicated audio video setup can be turned on and off using this remote! To watch directv on my setup all you have to do is hit the watch tv button and everything comes on all set to the correct input! It works the same way to watch dvd or whatever other activity you program it to do! The only minor complaint I would offer is that the number keys are really small and it is hard to change the channel while I am watching directv! Other then that one small issue I can honestly say anyone and I mean anyone could use this remote!! It has a help button and if something doesn't turn on properly this corrects the issue! It is easy to setup on the computer and once you have it setup you will never go back to a standard remote again! Great remote!!

 "PS3 Blu-Ray controller" 2009-09-14

A must have for the PS3 if you use it to watch movies. And was [...] cheaper than in the stores.

 "Kinda lame" 2009-09-13
By M. Gadd (Utah)
I was a little dissapointed in this remote. half of the buttons don't work half of the time while i'm watching a bluray. The stop, pause, skip scene buttons and fast forward buttons only work at specific times. Its very aggravating trying to press the stop, play, or fast forward buttons and have them not do anything half of the time.

 "Good for movie night" 2009-09-13

Good remote, just wish it lit up like most modern controllers so you can see buttons in the dark when watching a movie.

"great remote at a great price" 2009-09-12
By John
If ONLY more remotes and systems had bluetooth compatiblity. It's really great to NOT have to point the remote at a sensor on the PS3. At $20 the price is great.

Definitely recommend this product to anyone with a PS3 who plans on watching DVDs or Blu Ray discs. Thanks.

 "Great Blue-tooth Remote" 2009-09-11
By Peter B. (Seattle, Washington)
Works just fine, but take note... does not work straight out of the box. You must activate first it with your PS3. It is simple to do in the settings menu.
